Airbnb and Porto City Council Collaborate to Promote Responsible Tourism

Airbnb has partnered with the Porto City Council to launch a new initiative that enhances regulatory compliance and encourages sustainable tourism across the city. As part of this strategic collaboration, Airbnb will provide the local government with a dedicated digital portal that enables real-time monitoring of accommodation listings.

This tool allows the City Council to quickly identify and request the removal of properties that do not comply with local laws, reinforcing efforts to combat unregistered or illegal short-term rentals. The partnership aligns with the city’s broader Future Strategy for the Sustainability of Porto as a Destination, aimed at fostering authentic, balanced, and community-oriented tourism.

In addition to the monitoring platform, the agreement includes an awareness campaign to educate hosts about the latest legal requirements for local accommodations—such as the obligation to present proof of civil liability insurance. It also supports initiatives that decentralize tourism flows by promoting visitor experiences throughout less-traveled areas of Porto.

Together, these measures are designed to help hosts meet new regulations while enhancing the quality of life for residents and promoting a more resilient urban tourism model.
